Field Trips

Above & Beyond offers tons of educational fun at a very affordable price for all schools & daycare centers in the state. Our field trips give students & teachers opportunities beyond the typical school experience by providing a “hands-on” experience and involving our visitors in creative exhibits and workshops. Focused Field Trips:

During this 90-minute experience, children will spend 30 minutes in a hands-on workshop led by a Museum Educator, followed by 45 minutes of free exploration of our interactive exhibits. All exhibits and workshops are carefully designed to meet the developmental needs of children from birth to age 8, and are aligned to Wisconsin Academic Standards, as well as Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards.

  • Fee: $7.00 per student
  • Offered Tuesdays and Thursdays:
    • 9:30-11:00 AM; Noon-1:30 PM or 1:30-3:00 PM
Self-Guided Field Trips:

During this 90-minute experience, children are encouraged to explore all of our exhibits at their own pace. The exhibits have been designed to meet the developmental needs of children from birth to age 8 and are aligned to Wisconsin Academic Standards, as well as the Wisconsin Early Model Learning Standards.

Focused Field Trip Workshops:

Rainbow Geometry
Students will begin with free exploration time to develop their own findings surrounding 3D shapes and color mixing. This exploration time will be followed up with open ended questions to engage the students minds and reinforce their findings.
Grades: Preschool-Kindergarten

Sensory Science
Young scientists will use their five senses to conduct simple experiments and make observations. Students will finish the workshop with a fun “take-home” experiment.

What’s with the Weather?
Where does water come from? How do clouds form, and why does water evaporate? Students will discuss answers to these questions and create their own “Rainstorm in a Jar”.
Grades: Kindergarten-3rd

Take Flight
Students will explore the forces of gravity through the creation of a flying object. We will wrap up this workshop with students testing their flying object in the wind tube exhibit, located on the first floor of the museum.

Robotic Hand*
Students will explore the way tendons are aligned, how to cause fingers to twitch and curl, as well as explore the amazing things our hands are capable of doing through the creation of a “Robotic” Hand. Students will leave with an ASL alphabet chart to practice at home with their hand creation.

*Geared for older elementary students, this workshop takes 45 minutes to complete followed by 30 minutes of exploring the museum exhibits.

Parking

Metered parking is available on all streets surrounding the museum.
There is FREE parking in the parking lot located on Niagra Avenue between 7th & 8th street.

Lunch

lunchFood and beverages are not permitted outside the lunch room.
Lunch room rental is $20.

There is no fee for eating at the picnic tables in the Children's Garden.

Joint Field Trip Opportunity!

Above & Beyond Children's Museum and Christopher Farm & Gardens developed a collaborative field trip program that gives schools the opportunity to engage their students in educational programs revolving around Wisconsin's natural environment. This program will have an opportunity to explore both locations, which includes for the first time ever an exclusive tour of the Christopher Farm & Gardens!

This exclusive joint field trip is available May through September.
